I've been told not to tweezer any eyebrow hairs from the top of my eyebrows, but that it's ok to tweezer underneath - is this true? Are there any other important things to remember?

It's perfectly fine to pluck your eybrows. Warm the area up with a warm towel or just water before that, it's best to do it straight after taking a shower. Pores are open so it's less painful and easier! Use brand "Tweezerman", quite expensive but last life time and they are really good. But don't overpluck them, with constant plucking you might loose them.
My advice to you is to go to a salon first time and then follow their line! Good luck!

You shouldn't tweeze the top, except maybe the odd stray hair that is just off on it's own, but if you remove from the top you will lose the lovely natural arch you have. Some chemists do kits where there is a sort of stencil, and you hold that over your eyebrow, and then colour in all the bits you don't want with a white eyeliner, then you find the roots to the white one's and pull those out!
It's a commom mistake that people see they need to lose some brow in one place, grab a clump of hairs and pull them out, not realising that actually those hairs just had their roots there, but they were providing cover for somewhere else!

Slanted tweezers are best. Pull one at a time in the direction of growth, so basically outwards towards your ear. Don't pluck many in one go as you may misjudge and end up with a dodgy shape.

You should only pluck from below as the top creates the shape. Best thing to do is go to a proffessional for a wax, then it will be really easy for you to see which ones to pluck when they regrow.

You can pluck for a few months then go back for a wax. Works well and the beautician will be bale to give you a really good shape to work with.

That's not true. Everytime I have ever gotten my eyebrows done at a salon they always tweeze or wax the top. The more stray hairs you remove from the top, the more defined they will look. Just don't go past the actual top of your brow line. Tweezing the top gives you more of a dramatic difference then tweezing the bottom..in a good way. It looks so much more clean cut.

first of all slanted twesers are the best to use. alot of people (even my mum, omg) say not to pluck on the top of ur eyebrows, but every1 does it and with plucking and top and bottom the final look will be alot better than only plucking the bottom. pluck holding the skin tight and do it quickly, taking hrs will not help ur pain to be relieved or ur eyebrows to look better. if the answers you get on yahoo arent satisfactory or for extra tips why dont you take a trip to a salon and they can show u how to pluck ur eyebrows properly and they will give you the right shape that will suit ur face...gud luck

For beginners always tweezes it from below. That way you can estimate. U can draw your brows into the shapes u like first before u start tweezing that way u wont end up regretting. Use your own natural arch for guidelines more natural.

But our eyes are very delicate and full of important optic veins, therefore instead of tweezing i would recommend shaving that way ur eyelid wont droop when u tweeze too much.

yes it is true, dont ask me why,as i used too do it,and nothing happened too mine, but i dont anymore,
get yourself a really good pair of tweezers, and start getting all straggly ones out first, then start too shape, putting cream on first can help them come out easier,
dont pluck in between your nose where the eyebrows meet, otherwise they will grow back bushy and end up joining together,so you look like you have a mono brow,
hope this helps,

if i were you i would get them waxed instead of using tweezers - this is much quicker and lasts longer. also if you use the waxing method the hair will start to grow back thinner which is what you want.
