Bacterial Conjunctivitis
Pink eye, red eye, and infective conjunctivitis
The conjunctivum is the membrane that lines the eyelids and the Sclera (white of the eye). Infection or irritation of the conjunctiva and the inflammation (redness, irritation, swelling) that results is termed Conjunctivitis.
Eyes are red or pink.
Eyelids stick together especially in the morning.
Eyes Itch.
Excess tearing.
White-yellow or cream color thick sticky discharge (usually in bacterial infections).
Watery discharge (Allergic or Viral).
Pain may be present.
Bacterial symptoms often in one eye.
Virus infections and allergies often affect both eyes.
Bleeding or hemorrhage can be seen as rupture of tiny blood vessels.
Viruses such as Herpes can cause tiny ulcers (shallow open sores).
Swelling of conjunctiva can occur.
Sensitivity to light.
Treatment
If ulcers or damage has occurred, the patient is referred to an eye specialist (Ophthalmologist)
Warm (NOT HOT) water can be used to wash the debris. Cold water may help with irritants, chemicals and allergic conjunctivitis.
Remove contacts
Treatment of bacterial infections include:
Antibiotic eye drops or ointments that are given for 5-7 days
Gentamicin, Tobramycin and Erythromycin ophthalmic preparations are often put in every 4 hours.
Antibiotic pills are rarely necessary, but Doxycycline, taken orally for 3 weeks, is effective against chlamydia.
Viral infections without ulcerations are usually resolved without treatment
Antiviral eye drops and pills such as Acyclovir are effective therapies for Herpes
Allergic reactions:
Allergy medicines
Avoid the causative agent
Oral and antihistamine eye drops

You really need to get a new doctor. If you cant I would keep going till they fix it. and a 4 week olds eyes can be open a lot. My 9 week old had her eyes open not even 2 minutes after she was born. If it wasnt for the few hours she sleeps here and there Id think she never closed them. I hope that 8-9 hours is not straight. A 4 week old needs to be fed like every 4-5 hours at the longest. Im still doing 3 hour feedings but my daughter was premature and should only be 2 weeks old lol.

If your breastfeeding then squeeze breastmilk onto her eye and then gently wipe from the inner part to the outer. Then redo until it is all gone. Then do it again just to clean it, it should help it from happening again.
If you dont breastfeed then get some warm water and dissolve a little bit of salt in it. When it is cool enough to use ( always test it first you dont want to burn her) then dip a cotton ball in the water and wring it out enough that it still slightly wet but not dry and wipe from the inner part to the outer part. DO NOT reuse the same cotton ball as this will just reinfect the eye. Again once its all gone just do it again to make sure.
This what my Mum did when my brother was little, he got conjunctivitis all the time really badly. Hope this helped.

I got identified with herpes simplex virus (type 2) about three yrs ago, whilst I was still in college and had a foolish one-night stand. I realize loads of girls say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a mistake that one time and suddenly it seemed like I was going to have to live with the implications for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. In the end, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores around her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/4AbU0 everything changed.
Not only was I able to remove all remnants of the herpes virus from my body in less than 3 weeks, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so blessed to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This system provided the chance to be happy and experience real love again. Now I hope that I can help others by sharing this story.

Washing in warm slightly salty water, a different piece of cotton wool for each eye, is the best you can do until you can get some eye drops.
There will be an emergency chemist near you somewhere. The local papers normally have a list.

My baby had same problem last week, you need to get antibiotics drops for it but in the meantime keep the eyes clean with a bit of saline or similar water (eye irrigation water) and a some cotton wool or something. You will see pus coming out otf the eye to , don't freak out to much, but this is from the bacteria causing the conjuctivitis or pinkeye if you live in the u.s

My son had this same thing when he was little. I was shopping one day and this lady came up to me and noticed his eyes. She told me her son had the same thing when he was a baby and an old indian woman had told her to wash his hair with baby shampoo and let the bubbles go into his eyes when you rinse his hair. It won't burn cause it's tear free. I was desperate cause the doctor told me he would have to have his tear ducts operated on when he turned one if it didn't go away. I tried it and it took two times, but it went away and it never came back. Hope it works for you. Also, I used Johnsons original baby shampoo.

Saline solution drops in the eyes every couple of hours, but try and get your baby to an emergency doctor, cos this can so easily lead to an infection. Good luck
