Of course I understand baseball is a business. What I don't believe DBacks management understands is that keeping your customers (fans) happy keeps a business healthy. This franchise has a LOT of unhappy customers. The only games I will consider attending this season are Dodgers games. So I can scream myself hoarse for Gonzo.
As for Randy Johnson, his character is the antithesis of Gonzo. Rude, aloof, charges for autographs; stories of his dismissing adoring kids are everywhere. And a YANKEE? As if he didn't have a Yankee attitude beFORE he became one. UGH! Please share your thoughts.

The Randy Johnson move had a few key incentives.

1) Johnson gets his 300th win in a D-Backs Jersey
2) Increase the odds that Johnson goes into the Hall of Fame as a D-Back
3) Attendance Booser (hometown hero)
4) Mentor for Brandon Webb
5) Solidify the back-end of their rotation

Clearly Johnson's best years are in the past, but he can still be a serviceable number 3, 4 or 5 in the National League...especially win that dome is closed. We found out in a hurry that outside of a dome, he isn't quite the pitcher he once was...think about it (Seattle-Kingdome, Houston-Astrodome, Arizona-Whatever they're calling that ballpark now)...he also found out that pitching to the hitters in the AL East 20 times a year is a little bit harder than pitching to the much weaker NL lineups.

As far as Gonzo and Counsell go--you have to realize that the D-Backs have one of the best farm systems in baseball right now. They have a plethora of young talent that is ready for the show right here and right now. If you keep a Carlos Quentin or a Chris Young down in the minors to keep an aging Luis Gonzalez in the lineup, you're hurting the team and the future of the team. Sometimes players have to move on...

I think the D-Backs are in much better shape with the youth movement under way and are about 2 years away from being THE team in the NL West...granted I said the same thing about the Brewers about 2 years ago too...

4 Cy Youngs, a WS MVP and a perfect recreation as a Dback. So certain, i'd say the percentages are highly solid. playstation . the guy who claims Dave Winfield don't have went in the hall of popularity as Padre because he did not play lengthy sufficient there don't have a clue what he's talking about. Winfield spent 8+ years with the Yanks. He spent 8 years with the Padres.

I think they are on the right track. hey have more good young hitting prospects than ANY team in MLB, and are a few years away from contending. Unit was an attendance thing, ya know, bringing back a World Series MVP, but he should still have enough left in him to pitch well in the NL for a few more years. i know you guys miss Gonzo, but he has little left in the tank, BUT, for the same reasons they brought back Unit, they maybe should have kept him too.
i think the Backs will be great in a few years, just be patient.

Even though the Diamondbacks brought back Randy Johnson, they won't improve by much. But, he will draw a crowd in Arizona since he was voted their hometown hero in DHL's Hometown Heroes. D'Backs fans should be happy to have him back.

Randy Johnson is not even a shadow of his former self, bringing him back will do little.
