by good hotel i MEAN A CLEAN ONE!!!

1) Come in winter. Much cheaper.

2) Try the Red Roof Inn off Michigan Avenue. Surprisingly cheap, and a really nice hotel.

3) Don't stay directly downtown. Try one of the outerlying hotels like the Best Western Grant Park or Best Western Hawthorne Place - those are still in neighborhoods near downtown, with easy public transportation, but don't cost you so much for being next to Michigan Avenue.

The Ramada Inn O'Hare at Cumberland and the Kennedy Expressway is right across the street from the Cumberland 'L' station, about a 45-minute ride from the Loop. Prices vary, but it's usually quite affordable. There is also a Holiday Inn near the same 'L' stop.

These two hotels in Lincoln Park and great and clean. I have stayed in the Days Inn and my friend has stayed in the Lincoln Park. I lived at Diversey and Hampden, and know good hotels in this area.
