The active volcanos on the Hawaiian islands are much different than those of the other volcanic chains. Hawaiian volcanos are formed through mantle "hot spots" that rise up to the crust and form a volcano and as the pacific plate moves, the chain of islands we see today. They bring a sense of "predictability" to eruptions. Pyroclastic flows are the most dangerous.

Keep in mind, any active volcano is EXTREMELY dangerous.

Mainly it's because the eruptions in Hawaii are not explosive. Magma rises to the surface and then the lava flows toward the sea. It's not like a Mt St. Helens where a huge lava dome was created and then violently exploded in a destructive eruption.

Lava just bubbles out of the volcano and flows down slowly. You normally don't have wide spread devastating eruptions in Hawaii like you do with volcanoes like Mt. St. Helens.

Don't kid yourself though eruptions can still be dangerous. People have died.

Potentially because they not prone to massive explosions like that of Mount St Helens.
