best to have it checked out within the next 24 hours. she needs to have an xray done to rule out a fracture
for now ice it for about 10-15mins at a time but make sure to not apply the ice directly to the skin (put in a ziplock bag is best). ice applied directly to the skin can cause ice burns.
give her children's motrin for the pain and swelling (it works better than tylenol b/c it has an anti-inflammatory in it). follow the dosage guidelines on the back of the box (based off of weight and age).
tape her finger to the one next to it using first aid tape-it can be found at any local drugstore, this will help stabilize the finger in the event that it is actually broken.
no school until she is seen by a dr. this way he can set guidelines for how much activity she can have and also properly cast or wrap the finger to prevent further injury.
don't feel bad for not rushing her directly to the er. sometimes it's best to wait things out and not run to the hospital for every little thing (if only we all thought that way-lol). but definitely have her looked at within the next 24 hours....
hope she feels better soon!!

THAT'S WHY IT'S SO DAMN PAINFUL!!! been there done that dude. don't prolong her agony any longer. take her to an ER. there is a blood clot under her nail and it's putting so much pressure on the nerves it's causing the pain. plus it can be dangerous. if the pressure gets too high it will completely cut off the blood flow to the tip of her finger and the tissue will die and cause gangrene and a systemic infection and that's BAD. deadly. but that's a worse case scenario you understand. but really. get it drained. it's painless. they use this little probe with a needle sized tip that gets very hot and burns a little hold in the nail and the blood drains out and the pain goes away. presto chango. DON'T LISTEN TO THOSE JERKS ABOVE WHO SAID IT'LL GET BETTER ON IT'S OWN. LIKE I said. WHY PROLONG HER AGONY?

i don't think that u should have 2 take her 2 the doctor because i smashed my finger in the car door b/4 and it did the same thing but like 5 days later it went away. but she shouln't miss any school just over a finger i never did miss any school and if she does go 2 school and it starts 2 hurt her pick her up early from school and then take her 2 the doctor. if you want 2 do that.

You should have taken her to an ER immediately after it happened. Keeping her fingers together, wrap all and her hand in an ace bandage (or something comparable) to immobilize the injured finger. Keep ice on it to help reduce internal bleeding and swelling. Give her Children's Tylenol for pain and take her to her peridatrician in the morning. You can also take her to an Urgent Care now as was suggested but it's a little late for that. She may need a hand X-ray to rule out fracture. Keep her home tomorrow. Don't beat yourself up for neglecting to do this. We all make mistakes, just don't make this one again.

Probably bruising / seeping / bleeding underneath the nail. If she can move the finger, it's probably not broken. I'd go to the doc anyways for a double check. I'd make a self-made splint by wrapping two fingers together with a small piece of wood and some string and take her to the hospital.

i would just ice it wrap it and leave it. it hurts the first couple of days. the only time that one of us (me and my bro) was taken to the hospital is when he was bleeding and u could see the bone. its just bruised bad. if she can move it in a day or two there is nothing wrong but if she is still in a lot of pain with in the week take her to the doctor. just keep icing it the swollen should go down. i would say school i believe that is a stupid reason to miss school. she will slammed her finger in the car door aging.

that's WHY it is so rattling PAINFUL!!! been there carried out that dude. do no longer extend her anguish any greater. take her to an ER. there's a blood clot under her nail and that's putting plenty rigidity on the nerves that's inflicting the soreness. plus that's risky. if the rigidity gets too intense it is going to thoroughly decrease off the blood bypass to the top of her finger and the tissue will die and reason gangrene and a systemic an infection and that's undesirable. deadly. yet that's a worse case difficulty you already know. yet incredibly. get it drained. that's painless. they use this little probe with a needle sized tip that gets very heat and burns a splash carry interior the nail and the blood drains out and the soreness is going away. presto chango. do no longer hear to those JERKS ABOVE WHO mentioned it's going to get greater efficient ON that's own. LIKE I mentioned. WHY extend HER anguish?

I have this kind of experience.. my niece, she was 4 or 5 years when this happened.. but we just put some ointment (medication oil).. n normal for a child that she couldn't stand for the pain.. it's just that we shouldn't keep asking or touch on the painful part.. if not, she'll be reminded about the pain.. that's a child psychology i think..

If there is no open wound put her finger in lukewarm water.it dilutes the clotted blood and also reduces the pain and swelling. You can tie a bandage to make it immobile. you can give her paracetamol and ibuprofen. if the pain and swelling still persist take her to a doctor.
