Well, I've been a programmer for the last 18 years, and the short answer is time and effort.

I assume you are referring to the BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) on a windows machine; Typically identified by a lot of text in white on a blue background. According to the microsoft literature, you should never see it, but then I think most programmers have at some point. Try searching for the error description in the top line of text in google or MSDN (Microsoft Developer's Network).. In all probability you are suffering from software rot; driver corruption etc. You may have to re-install windows to fix it, but dont until you are sure.

One other thing; don't get too hung up on a particular programming language. They all have their strengths and weaknesses and it is better to understand the PRINCIPALS of programming rather than just how to program in one programming language. Personally I do like C++ as a very good general purpose programming language, but it is better to have many techniques at your disposal than a single general tool.

Another thing that is very important if you want to turn your hobby into a career is communication. You will find as a professional programmer that you have to write a LOT of documents... requirements, designs, loads of things. And they all require you to explain your fantastic ideas so that people who aren't programmers can understand them. This means good written and spoken communication skills, I know this doesn't seem particularly relevant right now, but from the second you become part of a crew writing demos or whatever else you may be involved in, right through to the day you are standing in a board room giving a whiteboard presentation to your business clients, those communication skills are going to be essential.

There are plenty of good books to read:

I really shouldnt be telling you this but a lot of very useful reading material can be found by looking up "torrent"

Good luck.

I agree with Kristofer. Bloodshed Dev C++ is free and very good. It is very straightforward, the interface is understandable and (if you mean the background is blue) you can change the colour of the background and the letters and pretty much everything.
I suggest you start of with an easier programming language, like Basic (I found an excellent language and tutorial in Liberty Basic) which was my first language, to start you off on learning the basics like what are variables, arrays, functions, etc.
Note that C++ is a very powerful language and low-level (meaning close to assembly language) which means you should start learning an easier language first.
Good luck, and if you want to ask anything you can always e-mail another rookie programmer :).

Awesome, keep on trying C++ is excellent!
I don't know what u mean by a blue screen. Download bloodshed dev c++ thats my fav compiler and the only way to become better is to make programs and gain expereince by doing more and more things you don't know how to do.
Google is a programmers best friend.

To be a good programmer you need to take a lot of math. The mathematical structure of programming is very complex, plus you need to be able to take real world problems and break them down into detailed logical sequences. So, physics, chemistry, and other analytical science is good to help you think analytically. To be a programmer is being a designer and engineer. You have to be very very smart!

If your programming is anything like your question, I wouldn't doubt the fact you get blue screens all the time.

Try a few more periods and question marks, along with misspelt words and improper phrases.
