I have Verizon High Speed DSL I really don't need the High Speed, but am spoiled, personally can get away with the slower DSL. I have the DSL, Long Distance, DirectTV & Wireless Phone package and am saving a few hundred - actually $239 off my monthly bills!

First determine your connectivity needs; WWW like 90% of us, VoIP, Chat, e-Mail, eCommerce, Web Hosting, Videoconferencing, etc.

Then determine how much of an Internet service that you need. Some people really NEED broadband - they upload/download streaming video constantly for their personal or business, or transfer very large files very often over the Internet. Or some people just want to be able to send and recive e-mail and not surf the 'net - they just need a simple e-mail provider for their need.

Then choose from the various ISP's in your service area that will best accommodate your Internet connectivity needs.

The above options are viable. You could reduce your connection speed or shop ISPs to find a better price but here are a couple options not mentioned. A lot of people have high speed broadband and most use routers. Few secure their wireless connections thus allowing an industrious individual full access to their internet connection. Technically speaking, it is a theft of service, however, several courts have upheld that it is up to the consumer to secure their wireless and failure to do so is essentially offering free connectivity.

Another more feasible method of reducing your broadband bill is talking to your neighbors and learning who among them has internet and who doesn't. Then, using routers, you can lease out your own connection to these neighbors at a fraction of the cost you pay and this is perfectly legal. I live in an apartment building and I have high speed cable for internet with an 8mb down and 1.5 up and I have arranged with the building owner to wire my LAN to twelve different apartments each paying me $10 a month. This pays my internet in full every month and then some. It wouldn't be as beneficial if you aren't in an apartment or if you're rural, but it is an option and I hope it helps.

-- Lower your service plan: if you're at 3.0 GB, go for 768kbps if you don't really do a lot of gaming or downloading.

-- Talk to your ISP. Sometimes they can strike a deal with you if you agree to a term length of ISP Service. Cable and DSL companies make deals like this all the time to retain customers who might go with another provider. Give it a shot.

-- If they won't deal with you, then shop around for a cheaper deal. They're not the only game in town, unless you live in a rural community, then sometimes they are.

get a smaller package from your internet serice provider (ISP) or switch to another provider. The bill remains constant no matter how you use it, it's like rent. Switching ISPs is as easy as making 2 phone calls....1 to tell the old guys "you quit", the other to tell the new guys to "hook you up". It's that easy.

Broadband is usually a set monthly rate, you would need to find a cheaper provider!

1. Find out how much speed you actually need.
. email only?
. news only?
. multimedia & gaming?
2. Find available services (start local)

3. Dont think you NEED high speed if you use the internet for "lightweight" activities. Slow connections are actually safer.

If you need speed, DSL is cheaper than cable.

You didn't give enough information. I will tell you what I did may be good for you. I had SBCglobal.net for $29.00 a month they were going to go to $39.00 a month I changed to Road Runner. Now I have my cable, telephone, computer all in one package and save about $65.00 a month

call your service provider and get on a cheaper plan. Don't go lower than 2mbps speed though.
