Sometimes it's an air bubble. Sometimes it's gas or an unsettled tummy. Sometimes they are being moved to quickly. Could also be from ill burping. Possibly that the baby is intolerant to the type of formula. The only thing that an infant eats/drinks is formula or breast milk. When they grow up and become older their vomit will be less frequent and it will be more colorful.

it is either from over feeding your baby or from gas. Get some mylicon drops. Babies associate upset stomach with hunger and they will want to eat too often or over eat to try and comfort themselves. Won't work. Alot of babies just don't seem to burp out all of the gas no matter how much you burp them. The burps get trapped under the milk and grow into gas and when it finally comes up it comes with milk. I used to put a little mylicon in each of my babies bottles til they were about 6 months old. It doesn't hurt them and makes them feel alot better. And the cheap brand works just as good as any other. About 4 bucks a bottle in the gas section of your pharmacy. But boy it's a lifesaver. Check it out, if your baby is on formula, notice after you shack the bottle it is full of bubbles, put one drop of mylicon in it any watch all the bubbles just dissipate. it does the same thing in their bellies.

They either drank too much or they swallowed too much air or their stomach isn't feeling good. I don't know why it is so runny but thats what babies do. It also smells too.
