It has to be a dog and a German Shepherd at that. You need to own one to understand why. A dogs is truly a man's best friend.
If you like aquatic species then go for a mini turtle. They are really cute and fun to watch.
However, if you think you won'tt be able to maintain pets then go for robot pets like an AIBO or wait for the PLEO. These are robots which act and behave just like normal pets. They have emotions too.

I would love any animal I own to be able to talk. I often picture what they would say in certain situations.
I have a couple of birds that know how to use a keyboard. They have certainly showed me some shortcuts.

We love animals. Rabbits, fish, cats and dogs. I'd love for my dog to talk just to really know what he needs from us and to hear how much he loves us. I'd like our cat to talk so we could know just how much more superior than us and all of our pets he thinks he really is and to find out if he loves us, or simply believes that all creatures around him are simply on this earth to please him and be his constant servants.

Sometimes I wish my dog could talk but all she would probably say is "can I eat that?", "throw the ball!" and "is it time to go for a walk?" I think cats would probably have more intelligent conversations. They seem like true thinkers. Yeah... I'd like to have a talking cat.

I wouldn't want any animal talking to me cause then I couldn't shut it up. And it would say the stupidest things....no offense to animals, believe me I love them...its just I wouldn't like them to talk....the world would be crazy if animals could talk.....we'd probably jump of the face of the earth...imagine them talking all at once!

It sure would be easier to clean up after them. Can you imagine your chihuahua jumping up in your lap during the football game, tounge hanging out, all happy, saying,"If you smell something funny in a few minutes or find some poo poo under your bed later, it wasn't me!"
