I think it is impossible to ever come up with an accurate number. Prehistoric times would pose a huge problem in the numbers department due to lack of record keeping.

Even in the information age it is hard to keep track of the population due to poor record keeping. Our formal population bean counters are still providing estimates. But steps have been made to make the counting more accurate. They still don't know how many people died in the tsunami 2 years ago.

All I know is it took 15 days to replace the 300k lost in the tsunami. Exponential growth is the word of the day but I am sure we are using up some of our ancestors whenever we fill up our gas tank.

There will never be a correct / exact answer. No one will ever know the true number of our ancestors all over the world.

Even today there are people who live deep in jungles that have not & never will be counted. There are people right here in 1st world countries that the census' have no clue about due to many people simply not sharing that info.

: )

Happy Sunday !

OK it is estimated that just more than half the people who have ever lived, lived in the 20th century. If you can work that out, multiply by two and you'll get an idea. Now, how many human habitable planets are in this galaxy?
