Since Twilight was already suggested I'm going to suggest The Mediator series by Meg Cabot. It is a complete set of 6 books so there wouldn't be any waiting to finish out the series :-) The books are about a girl who can see, hear and touch ghosts and is supposed to help them move on to their next life. In the first book, Shadowland, she moves across the country into a house where her room is haunted by a not so objectionable ghost. As the series moves on it gets more exciting. There is also a lot of drama, humor and some romance in the stories. Loved these books!

I never tire of F. Scott Fitzgerald's, "The Great Gatsby." It has romance, action, crime, drama, glitter, all set in the New York of the 1920s. The magic of this book is the fact that it is relatively short, and yet has so many sub-plots.
Another one I read at least once a year is "The Thornbirds." The forbidden love, the secrets and lies, also accompanied by some glamor, drama, and action. This is a rather long book, but well worth the read.

you could read the Chanters of Tremaris Trilogy:
The Singer Of All Songs
The Waterless Sea
The Tenth Power
They're by Kate Constable. They're nice fiction.
You might like books by Garth Nix:
Lirael
Abhorsen
Sabriel
they're lovely too.
Then there's Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister by Gregory Maguire, the guy who created The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, where the musical Wicked was based.

Well, there're a lot of good fiction books. I just finished a great book called The Ghost of the Cavalier. I couldn't put it down and hope I can find other books by the same author.

I am a huge fan of Terry Pratchett lately - I'll even read his teen books, he's that good! Warm hearted, charming and very funny. Robert Heinlein books never disappoint. Thought provoking, warm characters and very very interesting. Both are in the Sci-Fi section of any bookstore.
Peace!
