The major difference is the transfer speed. USB is significantly slower than Firewire. As I have already checked, there are no USB to Firewire adapters. If you are dealing with video, Firewire is the way to go for a better quality video.

USB and Firewire are two completely different technologies, some engineers I read liken the two of them to IDE vs. SCSI, burst extreme speed vs. sustended high speed.

Firewire is faster than firewire.
External hard disk is always use firewire convert to usb.
