i have a pavilion 714a, with 2 slots for ddr ram. the hp website says its expandable to 1g. on another it says 2g.
i would like to expand to 2g but need a final answer.
also, currently running at 760mb with plenty or hd space left, my pc seems to freeze during multitasking. would more ram help with this issue, or is it a case of having a p4 2.4ghz processor?

Your freezes are not caused by RAM deficiency, but by Virtual Memory deficiency. This means your Swap file is too small. Having 1 or 2 GB RAM does help, but it will not solve the problem.

What you also need to do is try partitioning your HDD to have it's own section for Virtual Memory to swap files. Try to give this partition 1 or 2 gigs, but allow Windows to manage how it's used. It is hard to balance correctly manually, but it's up to you if you like to try.

I don't think you can add more RAM.

I found this info:

HP Pavilion 714a Memory
Maximum Memory:1gb
Base Memory:256mb removable
Upgrade Sockets:2
256mb part number:P5300E
512mb part number:P5300G

Whichever type of slot you have is multiplied by the largest DIMM you can buy for it - sites may not be updated regularly.

Yes, more RAM would help.
