I have this gateway laptop for almost 2 years come april. In the past 7 months i've had to reboot it several times. Recently its been so bad that its been making this clicking noise every second and would not load my windows xp at all. I just reinstalled windows xp and it is still clicking about every 45 seconds or so. It has been over heating whenever i lay in my bed with it on my lap and i would have to let it cool off for 5 minutes or so to turn on. Also, whenever I burn DVD's.......most of the time it would get either atapi.sys error of somesort nd win32k error message. Main thing, i got 2 months left on my warranty. Shouldn;t they replace my hard drive or something if that is the problem?

I first took it back to Circuit City and they basically laughed at me bc the pc was almost 2 years old saying " is that ours?" then told me I had to call a certain number for this problem. I called the number, they told me to call gateway to pay for a recovery cd, which i told them i didnt need in the first place, bc when i boot my pc, I can press f11 and do a complete reboot of my pc, they insisted to call gateway saying its not the same as the recovery cd. However the lady I talked to told me that..."With the training she recieved, f11 does the same as a recovery cd". I don't know what to do, it never use to click before, and its been doing it alot lately, since im under warranty? shouldn't they automatically fix it? what did I pay the extra money for? I think they "Circuit City" is trying to wait for my 2 months to come to pass.

I took it to the firedog people there at circuit city and they basically sent me out the door with a paper with the number to call so i can get my pc shipped out. A diagnostic program will let me know if something is wrong with the hard drive?

Sounds like your hard drive has either already died, or is going to really soon.

If its still in warranty, get the hard drive replaced. If its NOT in warranty, you'll have to take it somewhere to have a new hard drive installed.

Chances are that you will lose all your data, especially if its already making the click of death.

Download some diagnostic programs and run diags on your hard drive. I bet it's going bad. Next get out your paperwork confirming you bought it at Circuit City with the extended protection plan.

Take it to the Firedog folks, I bet they handle all the extended warranty stuff. If they balk, start complaining.

If it is warrantied you should definitely have it fixed. What has their response been?
