If you are not on a wireless network then do not worry about it. You have to have a wireless card and be connected wirelessly to be hacked over wireless.

I can't tell you how exactly because you didn't say which router or anything that you use. I think you are worried about wardrivers; people who access your unsecured wireless network and use your internet. Anyone in your network has the ability to get into your computer files, all you can do is make it difficult for them to get in. By hiding your SSID, you aren't advertising. By using WPA or WEP, you encrypt your connection so only someone with the key can access it.
