People say this as a euphemism for 'globalisation' - it's pure nonsense...yes, the internet helps but there's still a huge divide between the 50% of the worlds population that survives on less than $2 per day and the [predominantly Northern hemisphere] rich folk in the G7 group

I think the world has actually become a small village due to the internet & media. It is true that we might not understand each other properly or maybe we just prefer to see the bad aspects about each other. But i think that if we both try to understand each other without any prior ideas of each other, without biased points of view & respecting each others beliefs & cultures we'll find that we r more similar than we r different coz after all we r all human beings, and i think we should focus on similarities rather than differences.

i think we are not becoming a village, thats probably a happy misleading idea, but a big sprawling city with different sections. Certain people avoid certain sections for their own reasons. Perhaps some day it will get easier and easier to move between sections but I suspect every section will revert to the 'gated community' scenario due to some very negative members of the city.

Yes, negative propaganda, that is spread via News Reporters, and articles written in exaggeration to catch our attention makes it very difficult to visualize other cultures in a positive light. I traveled for many years, and this did help me to identify the differences first hand. It was fun, but scary at times when I was singled out as a citizen of the USA. There was one place, in Canada where they stereo scoped me and taunted me with crazy questions. "They" assumed I was ultra-wealthy, wild, and a super party girl. I straightened "them" out real fast!
People in general need to broaden their horizons, we are all alike more than we realize.
