The deadlines are different for the two places I plan to apply to. I know that I will get into the place with the early deadline, but my chances of getting into the other are better if I wait to apply after my summer courses are over. I need to know how long I can wait in between.

They give you certain deadlines. You have to abide by them.

If the early deadline place isn't a binding admission, just send in your deposit to hold your place. You can always change your mind later and not enroll that fall.

The schools give you the deadline you need to respond by. You go by that deadline. If you want to keep your options open, just tell the earlier one you want to go (the deposit I was talking about) until you hear from the second one. If you can't decide btw the two, send both deposits in, but just enroll in one. When you don't show up at the other, they'll know.

You are bound to accept the deadlines of each other.
