I will explain the mysterious looking :

a(x)

for you.

a is a name of a function , it could be c as well or f or Blabla

next comes "( )"
between the ( ) are the so called arguments of the function.
the use of "()" is only to indicatate that between it are argumenbts.

Now you dont have anything if you have a name and some arguments

you need a definition as well

a ( x ) is x * x

which means that a( 2 ) is 2*2 thus 4

. Now I have a question for you , what does {Equation:id=1, title=eqn_1}
mean ?
