Most of the major banks offer a basic bank account that allows wages to be paid into and (some) allow direct debits and standing orders too. They usually have an Electron card or a simple cash card but no cheque book or overdraft. If the account is held in credit for a while then there is a good chance that they will offer to upgrade the account to a 'proper' current account will full facilities. As for the Capital One credit card - pretty much anyone can get one as long as they are on the Electroral Register.

If you go bankrupt you CAN have a bank account. The aren't trying to make a criminal of you because you couldn't pay some bills. The only think is after bankruptcy it's difficult yo get credit but that ends after 7 years so it isn't forever. Been there. Done that. While it totally sucks to have to go bankrupt it happens. Go get the forms and read about it. You can file yourself and save hundreds. It's also very good for you to do it yourself.

I think you have to have an account still. A friend of mine was made Bankrupt and the courts told him that if he could not get an account then they would get one set up for him.

You can have a bank account. Banks want your money so that it can lend it to other people for an inflated interest.

yes, you can have basic bank accounts, they're not effected by bankruptcies, getting a loan or overdraft loan is another thing!
