I need help please! I am wanting to move my family to Texas and I wonder how I do it in regards to my job. My company does not have any Texas offices to transfer to so I would need to find a new job. The problem is that I am afraid to quit my job and move and then look for one when we get to Texas. We do not have much money on reserve. How do I line a job up before I get there? Is this possible? I'm very confused. I know people relocate but I have no idea how they work it out. Any suggestions?

Search online or get a phone book for the area you are moving to, and contact the employment/ placement agencies there that staff/ place in your field. Get entered into their system and tell them your time frame on moving to the area... that way you can get them working on finding you something, even if it is just a temp assignment/ contract to get you going while you and they can search for something long term.

Look for companies there that are in the same business yours was, and visit their websites and look for job ads there.

You can also try and find information for when major job fairs are held in the area as well, visit the fair website and research the employers attending and check out their websites and job announcements... contact them and tell them you looked at their openings and were going to be relocating to the area... see if that can lead somewhere.

However, the easiest way is to bite the bullet and save up enough money beforehand to afford the moving, the trip, etc and at least a couple of months worth of living expenses... that way if it does take a while to find a job, money isn't immediately a pressing issue once you make the trip.

In order to move a whole family w/o a job lined up first; you need two incomes... one person work in the old state... the other person go to the new state and find work, find a place, etc.

You need to save first and have a VERY good idea that you can get a job quickly that will pay good. Because if the two jobs don't pay good/decent, you will have trouble holding down two households.

Good luck! They say everything's bigger in Texas, I hope that holds true for paychecks! ;-)

I imagine that it would help if you get online and pull a local newpaper of where you're going and then you can what jobs are available in the area. Send our resumes and make calls to set up appointments for your interviews. You may need to down there ahead of time and line something up if you don't have enough money to last a couple of weeks for things to work out.
Also go the department of labor when you get there and they will help you get a job. Good luck.

why dont you save up before you move so you'll have something to fall back on, while not having a job? the world wasnt made in one day, so you dont have to move so suddenly.
