I beleive with fry, a sponge filter is probably the best. But, since you're probably already over ran with them, and will continue to be, I just let mother nature take it's course. As far as plants, I think I recall java fern is one of the easiest to grow, and I don't think they like the taste of it. But I could be wrong on that. Do you have the proper lighting for plants and are you using a fertilizer with iron? Adequate lighting should be left on for at least 8 hours minimum. For your filter, you could try putting a mesh knit bag/filter media bag(sell them at the pet store, usually by the filter accessories) over the intake tube. But, all the gunk and stuff sticks to the outside of the bag then, and you need to be good about cleaning it off. As far as sexing them, I think you need to wait a bit till they're a few weeks old. The female's anal fin-on their belly just before the tail, will be triangular shaped, the males will have a tube called a gonopodium.

In this photo, the one on the bottom and probably the left one also are females, other 2 look male.

By looks alone your tank looks fine, but it is poorly stocked. I hope the 10 gallon is filtered and has a heater. Males/Female Guppies will breed abour 40+ every few months, and a 10 gallon cannot handle all that fry. Same with Molles, and the Platies. Your tetra, whatever it may be, needs a shoal 5+. Tetras are a shoaling fish that thrives on others for protection as well. Also a lone tetra could get stressed and develop factors as humans also have in seclusion. A lone tetra would not exhibit the same signs it would than if it was in a shoal. Also the swordtail, grows to about 3 inches long, from head to tail. In the end, your tank is okay, but it will go downhill from when they start breeding. ("'\(o.o)/'")

myfishtank.net is a fairly good forum for questions about fish keeping. There are others, but I use that one.
You can go to a pet store and buy something to put in the aquarium to keep the fry in separate from the other fish. I don't remember what it was called. The filter you should have depends on the size of tank you have. Be sure that your filter is appropriate for the amount of gallons of water in your tank.
