Hermit crabs are social creatures, and when you have a group of them together some will fight to try and figure out the social order in the group. i.e. who is the boss. lol
also they can smell when one of the others is getting ready to molt, and every other crab in the tank is going to try to eat the old skin of the molting crab so that they can get the calcium and other minerals that it contains. A crab that is near molting will try to hide, by digging a hole and burying itself, or crawling under something.
If you think one of your guys is getting ready to molt remove him to an area by himself because he will be very vulnerable to attack and the others may kill him.
Having said all that, and from your explanation it sounds like your Jumbo is just to big to be with the others, Hermit crabs in a group should all be near the same size, and there should be plenty of room in there cage if they are overcrowded they will kill each other.
Taking the Jumbo back to the pet store, or getting him a tank of his own may be your only option.

Make sure you have plenty of extra shells, also, it depends on the species, and each hermie is different. I have a large Eucci who is very territorial of his food! He would stand on his hind legs and do the stork to keep the others out. I ended up putting 2 more smaller food dishes in the cage, he has latched on to one of those and all is fine. Don't isolate the crab they are social guys, if it is a shell war, they will normally do there thing and no one usually gets hurt, and everyone will get a new shell. Even if you think it is to small of a shell for him, he might have different ideas. I have another Purple Pincher whom likes to change shells about every 3-4 days, we call her Barbie. Good luck!

Isolating will NOT fix anything you must treat the problem.
First make sure the crabitat is within the proper temp and humidity ranges (76-82 degrees F and 76-80% relative humidity)
Secondly you must provide at least 4 extra shells per crab of the proper type and size. Measuring against the large pincher vs' the opening size to make sure the crab can block the enterence with that claw.
Thridly and most important.. you must provide a rich and varried diest of fresh fruits veggies whole grains and meats and fish.
Make sure they have enough varried calcium souces available in the crabitat and ALSO proteins like fresh fish and meat must be given weekly.
These can include and are not limited to..
dead feeder goldfish, any dead tropical non-poisonous fish, blood worms, crickets, grasshoppers, shrimp, krill, plankton, tubifex worms, silk worm pupaes, clams, beef either cooked or raw, salmon, tuna (not canned)
They must have the proteins, fresh if possible to help stop aggressions. We have tested and trialed this theroy for years with 100% success rate, complete agression sessation and prevention with no reaccorance.
Never offer them anything with salt or sugar added for either taste or during processing/packaging.
THEY DO NOT ENJOY BEING ISOLATED AND ARE NOT HERMITS BECUASE THEY LIKE TO BE ALONE> THEY MUST BE HOUSED AT LEAST 3 PER TANK BUT YOU CAN MIX ALL THE SIZES WITH NO PROBLEMS>
we mix all sizes we have micros the size smaller than a dime mixed in with all of the other crabs upwards of a grapefruit (larger than your fist size) and there are NO aggressions and never has been. THEY are mixed in the wild!!! They do not only hang out with crabs of the same size, that idea is absurd.

It sounds like you might need separate tanks. But hermit crabs are very social creatures and they do better with others. Maybe another one of equal size would be good with the larger hermit crab. If you don't want two tanks, then maybe you need to take him back. Good luck to you.

imo u would desire to get ur hermit crab first and after approximately 3 days of seein the way it acts, then u furnish it a acceptance that matches his/hers character. I actual have 2 of them and one is termed Everest after the Mountain cuz he likes to climb to the utmost peek of the massive log I actual have of their habitat. The others call is Waldo named after "Wheres Waldo" character lol cuz he constantly hides and frequently can b stumbled on burrowed below what ever i put in their place. presently its hay. I dont persist with regulations. I pimp their place out with what i discover around at homestead (logs, plastics etc.) If i did persist with regulations then it would cost $ and that i've got over 30 pets that selection from the worry-loose chickens to the unique tortises which btw grrrr escaped as quickly as lower back. Ugh that dam Houdini i shall hunt him down tom. early mornin :D If u dont prefer to attend to c their character u would finally end up with a acceptance thats an entire opposite of it and thats no exciting :( call techniques in any case: Herbie, Gary, Bella, Tom Tom, Bailey, Riley, Chomper (considering they have one great mandible claw) savour something of ur nite/day :)

if you are worried about the isolated crab i dont think he minds. there is a reason they are called hermit crabs afterall as long as he eats well and have room to move around he is perfectly fine

Keep the agressive one seperated from the others. If you keep them together, he will eventually kill the others.
Good luck.
