1) It will save us 100,000 barrels of oil A DAY. Thats less money for countries that produce alot of oil. I for one am not very fond of these countries. One extra month of daylight savings=3 million fewer barrels of oil we have to buy from those dirtbags.
2) There are plenty of people out there who don't use the first hour of daylight in the morning (e.g. stoner college students). However, everyone uses the last hour of daylight.
3) When daylight savings goes into effect, there is less crime and fewer accidents. The DST daylight shift reduces net traffic accidents and fatalities by close to one percent

Basically, we are saving money and lives. Plus, we get longer evenings. Who doesn't want that?

From: http://webexhibits.org/daylightsaving/b.html

"On August 8, 2005, President George W. Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005. This Act changed the time change dates for Daylight Saving Time in the U.S. Beginning in 2007, DST will begin on the second Sunday in March and end the first Sunday in November. The Secretary of Energy will report the impact of this change to Congress. Congress retains the right to resume the 2005 Daylight Saving Time schedule once the Department of Energy study is complete."

You know, good question, I had for a "second" thought it was because that beaver/groundhog had saw its shadow early! hahaha!

Daylight savings was put in in WWll. It was to help people to work in their gardens with an extra hour of daylight when they got home from work. It has been a nuisance ever since. It is way past time to get rid of this unnecessary meddling with the clocks. I vote to quit changing the clocks any more. Leave time alone!!

The extra 3 weeks is due to global warming making the days longer earlier, causing more earthquakes, cause coral to bleach and will ultimately cause the destruction of the entire living biosphere. I read it in the news paper, thats where I get all my scientific resource from.

Well last year we had an surpluss in the savings from last season and it was generally thought that we should feed some back to the public sector as a reward.

highly boring fairly - it is for power cost reductions - we can be in a position to keep money through no longer having to have the lighting fixtures on in our houses from the time we get domicile till we bypass to mattress. we can turn the clocks again one week later than what we were this autumn - the first weekend in November quite of the most suitable weekend in October - all so the children do no longer must be out trick or treating in the darkish!!!

Shelty K's answer is just for fun.
The real reason (IMHO) is political. Bush wants us to think he is doing something to save energy. The start date will save a little energy, but it is at best a symbolic action. The real energy savers - alternative fuel and conservation would cause too many problems for the oil industry.
