I've been told by my tattoo artist to wait 3-6 weeks before swimming again but I personally think that if your tattoo isn't pealing, and if any scabs that may have formed have come off and healed it's okay. Just remember that whether the tattoo is new or old that sun exposure and pool chemicals aren't good for it, and just for good measure take a shower as soon as you can after swimming to get any dirt or chemicals off you. Just be smart about it, do you feel the tattoo is completely healed? If not, don't do it.

as a tattooist i would recommend waiting until the rough skin is peeling without you picking at it, although, i would say as long as you didnt stay in the pool for days on end the amount of chlorine in the water wont damage the tattoo or slow the healing process. just remember when you get out, or get home to moisterise the tattoo (as you should be doing daily anyway) or use aloe vera vaseline on the area
