How do we get people to stop insulting and being prejuidice against people of size?

Ok I know Im going to hear some crap about..if they dont want to be treated bad they should loose weight, thats not the info Im looking for here.
It boggles my mind to hear the things people say to larger size people such as myself. You wouldnt us ethe N word or make fun of a guy with no legs so why do some people think its ok to insult and demean larger size people?

Obviously it's wrong to insult or demean someone 'of size', but it's not exactly the same thing as someone who is a different race, religion, or sexual orientation. In general, being drastically overweight is about lifestyle choices. And to be totally honest, it's kind of gross looking at someone who is drastically overweight. I realize the physical appearance is not a representation of personality and that everyone deserves to be treated with dignity regardless of physical appearance.

Let me also add, that I manage a movie theatre and very often it's the very overweight people who are ordering the extra large popcorn with extra extra extra butter - I mean some popcorn with their butter. So it can be difficult not get a little disgusted by them and it's easy to develop a lack of concern for their feelings about their weight.

And just to be clear, I'm not talking about people who are 15-20-50 or even 75 pounds overweight. I'm talking people who are 100+ pounds overweight.

It is because pop culture bases a person's worth on his/her dress size. Look at the celebrities. In most cases, the thinner they are, the more money they make. Every magazine today has some sort of article about who lost weight. The first thing we say to people when they loose weight is, "Wow, you look great!"

Being white, black, Hispanic, etc. is socially acceptable. Being heavy is not.

I think people lack respect for overweight people because it's so preventable. A legless guy can't just grow new legs, and a person certainly cannot just choose a new skin color, but overweight people can choose to correct their problem. I think that people lack respect for people who do not respect themselves enough to stay healthy and keep up their appearance.

Some people will always be insulting and rude, if you are talking about being over weight tell them this: I might be fat but you're ugly and I can diet!
