L.A. dress shopping?

we are visiting L.A. from San Francisco and wondering if there is any area that's famous for prom dresses? i am not talking about stores like macy's, but somewhere that local would go for teen dress. thanks

by the way, it's a group of friends (guys and girls, but none of us are going together as date)

the la fashion district... it has some nice dresses at good prices....

You can go to Melrose for some trendy prom dresses, if you (or daughter?) wants something that doesn't look like the typical department store dresses. A lot of people like shopping there so there aren't other people wearing the same clothes as you.

There's also a store in Burbank (if you have a car and don't mind the drive) called That's a Wrap (or It's a Wrap) that sells clothes that were worn on movie and TV sets, and they have tags that say where they were worn. The Travel Channel highly recommends them.

I'd suggest you go to the daddy of all hip stores, Fred Segal - I think there's one in Beverly Hills, and there is one is Santa Monica. Universal Studios also has a store where they sell all the clothes used in movies - there might be some fancy dresses there. Given its Hollyweird, the sizes are going to be really small - like 2's and 4's.

Alley in the Valley on the corner of Reseda Blvd and Oxnard street behind the party store. Look for the sign that says Alley in the Valley.

In Montclair, there is a Jessica McClintock outlet store that has a variety of evening dresses. My sisters bought their dresses from there.
