I under stand where your coming from with the fact the alcohol burns but for a zippo it need something a little more combustible than alcohol. try using rosin-oil its not zippo brand but its just as good and its made for wikk style lighters. Check your flint, even if there's a tiny bit left it wont have enough spring pressure to make it spark.

Why not try filling it with original Zippo lighter fluid? In case you are sure that the other stuff you've filled in works, try changing the flints (stones) and/or the wick. That should definitely resolve the problem.

You can buy lighter fluid for less than 2 dollars. The reason why it isn't sparking is because of what you put in it or it needs a new flint.
