My guess is that they have *discovered* how valuable and precious that life is, and the need to enjoy it while it's with us. there IS a difference between making a living, and having a 'life' ! Cheers!

Because they are smarter than we are..They treat their employees so good and fair that the employees like to go to work. They have better benefits too, including excellent child care.

Everyone says the U.S. is so wonderful and so far ahead of every other country, I don't know how they figure this? You cannot get a decent paying job without a four year degree from college. We have the poorest health care except for the third world countries. We do not have a child care system. The only way your child gets a decent education is to pay for private schooling. Our justice system is almost laughable.
Is there anything else you would like to know????

Better unions mean better working conditions, (including better holidays, paid sick leave, maternity leave etc) and better pay. Workers rights were fought for over a long period. Americans didn't fight very hard.

Unfortunately, some governments, like that in Australia, are trying to remove these conditions and bring things into line with the USA. To be able to get away with it they had to emasculate the unions and the industrial relations tribunal.
