There are many injuries that can be caused by lifting incorrectly. You can strain the muscles in the back, you can sprain the ligaments that help support the back, you can injure the discs that are in between the bones (vertebrae), you can pull on a nerve and many other things. You may have done one or more of these things when you lifted your furniture. I would advise a trip to your family physician or the emergency room with going to your family doc the first choice if you can safely make it there. I am not going to give any treatment ideas since I do not know what is going on with you and if you do a treatment that is wrong that may hurt more than help. You can use ice to help in the short term, 15-20 minutes on, 20 minutes off and repeat for 2-3 cycles as needed throughout the day. Follow-up with your doctor immediately - do not put it off. Your doctor may order some testing such as an x-ray (to rule out any fracture) and possibly an MRI. He may also refer you to physical therapy which cannot only help alleviate the symptoms you are experiencing now but can also teach you how to prevent future injuries. Your doctor may also give you an injection (cortisone or may refer your to an ortho doc/pain management doc that may give you an epidural) but these are usually not done in the acute phase of an injury. Make sure you get this taken care of right away and make sure you carry through with the treatment plan.

I think the first thing you should do is go to a walk in or urgent care clinic to make sure it isn't something very serious. Next is to make an appointment with a chiropractor, if your back is that hurt tha tyou can't stand up strait it probably means you might have slipped a disk or torn a ligament and that's going to require frequent visits to a chiropractor to undo the damage. But since generally chiropractors take on appointment basis, you'll want to go to a walk in/urgent care clinic for an immediate checkup to make sure it's isn't very serious and to get some pain reliever and tips from the doctor on what to do untill you go to a chiropractor and get therapy from your back.

Go to a chiropractor...
Have him do an adjustment and then go to him on a regular basis to keep your spine in the correct position. The body's nervous system runs through the spine and then goes to all the organs, if your spine is even slightly out of place(weight of a 5c coin), it will effect the workings of all your organs/body parts. I go regularly and haven't had to go to a GP in years other than the necessary yearly checkups. Remember to bend your knees next time you lift something heavy and try and keep it close to your body as possible.

You have have someone take you to a doctor and have your back x-rayed to find out if you broke or fractured any bone, if not the you might need to go to a chiropractor to see if you twisted anything and if he could get it back into place
