I would look for a new job immediately. Scr3w them if they don't like it. No giant corporation is gonna care how you are gonna put food on your table when they hand you your pink slip along with your next paycheck. They want you to stay because it is good for them, no other reason. It is a shame how many people will stay till the end and then not be able to find any job because of the hundreds of unemployed people all looking at the same time. Sorry, but I agree with you, cut your losses. :)

Your company is not alone on this. Other than getting more market share, companies must constantly cut costs and outsourcing is an effective way to get there. Reality is direct employees cost more (health care, etc.) This is corporate America.
While you hear it from TV, you cannot walk away from your job unless given the official notice of termination and the end date. Otherwise, you are NOT entitled to severance pay, wages earned, unemployment benefits and other residual benefits (such as insurance coverage for one to several months as required by law).
If you have a job offer, try to negotiate the start date by saying you have a job to finish -- that shows your are professional about it. Then negotiate an early release with a manager who is reasonable and make sure you don't give up your entitlements. Big companies usually don't want bad PR. You may feel the satisfaction of "screwing" them; but never burn your bridges.

I think you're smart to looking around first. Most people at work I know have very little loyalty for the company they work for... that is because the company has very little loyalty to them. They fire who they wants. Find another job that is more secure but don't quit until you get a better offer... Good luck!

Your doing the right thing. Are they going to compensate you for the time it takes you to find another job? Of course not. Its actually easier to get another job while you have a job, employers really like that, most of the time they wont even call your current employer for a reference, because your still working for them. Do what you have to, you can be loyal to your job, when you know your not going to loose it, they were not real loyal to their employees who they cut 200 peoples jobs/wages- without warning. I cant believe you had to hear about your job loss over the news, they should be ashamed. Good Luck I hope you work for a bigger and better company who appreciates their employees.

You got this in the right catagory. The RELATIONSHIP between your Company and you does not look so good, Company was not open and honest--would you stay in a relationship with a person who was not open and honest?
Ya gota do what ya gotta do, You gotta take care of Number 1 ! I think your Company is disfuntional and needs a reality check on who actually does the day to day work that makes them who they are. But that is so much of Corporate America nowadays, and don't even get me going on THAT one!
Good luck in your quest for a new job. May the new ralationship be much better.

Start looking immediately, BUT don't burn any bridges. You may need a referral or you may want to use your boss as a referral. He/she might be out on their butt too.
I empathize with you but being unemployede for a year now, I have invested the time on researching stuff on the internet, search Monster.com and Careerbuilders.com to get a jump start on getting you a new job.
Unfortunately, companies don't give a rat's a s s about loyalty. I would go in there and sit on my butt until they ask you to leave. Keep collecting the check until they fire you and go get unemployment that day.

run as fast as you can. screw loyalty, how dare they when you had to find out from the news that your company is so money-hungry that they think nothing of cutting your job and not even having the decency to let you know first. loyalty is good to have, but you must put your best personal interests first, especially if they dont return the loyalty but at least giving you notice before it was televised.

Do not waste another minute of your life working for that company!!
There is no reason for loyalty. It makes me ill that companies do things like that to their employees. I wish you all the best in finding a rewarding job with a company who cares about their employees.

You have to look out for yourself, obviously your company has no loyalty to you. You will still have to eat and pay rent when all is said and done, and in this job market the sooner you get a new job the better.

Of course if your job is ending better to look now then later. Be honest with any new employers about why your leaving your current job, they will understand. Has your company though, told you your job was gone, or are you assuming it is? But always look out for number one, after all if you dont, no one else will. Good luck
