Yes, go look at your employee contract. Most jobs in which you deal directly with the public or have the public safety in mind as an occupation--aka Nurses, Teachers, Police, Fireman............ Have a strict "Conduct Clause". Is this fair--yes, for the safely of the public and the name sake for whom that you work for (bad press and liability). Would you want a teacher who is accused of molesting children still teaching until they are convicted. A Nurse that batters, a Police officer that is a prostitute, or Fireman that sells drugs. I'm just a mechanic now---but, If i get just accused of DUI--I'm not allowed to drive any company or customers vehicles, any forklifts or yard equipment, and I cant bring my own car on the property even though I may still have my driving rights. (because of the liability insurance they carry) If convicted--I'm fired. Do I like it--no, fair-- Yes same rules apply to everyone.
How did they "HEAR", that you where being charged?, If you don't want something known about you---best not tell anyone. Could be that the person you told is required under their contract to divulge know information like this or be fired --under the same "Conduct Clause"

You should talk to a lawyer. When you were hired, did you sign anything that said that? Is that the known policy of the nursing home?
