5x + 3y = 4 x 4y = _3?
4 x 4y=16y
16y+3y=19y
19y + 3 = 22y

solve one of the equations for x or y.. then substitute the value of x or y into the other equation for each x or y...

example: x = 3y + 2 and 2x=6x+2y+3..
substitute (3y+2) in for x of the second equation.. and solve for y

2x = 6x +2y + 3 becomes 2(3y+2) = 6(3y+2) + 2y + 3
then you solve for y... 6y +4 = 18y +12 +2y +3
.. 0 = 18y + 2y - 6y +3 -4
.. 0 = 14y -1
.. 14y = 1
y = 1/14.. now substitute this into the first equation and find the value of x for this example...

5x + 3y = 4 becomes 3y = -5x + 4 becomes y = -(5/3)x + 4/3
substitute that into the second equation for y and solve for x

5x+3y=4 ---(1)
x-4y=-3 ---(2)

from e(2) x=4y-3
5(4y-3) +3y =4
y=19/23

x-4(19/23)=-3
x=7/23
