No one considered anywhere across the board is exactly blowing my sox off. How can we find someone great (maybe a mayor, governor, or congressperson). Then, how do we get him nominated?

I said nominated--not elected. Yes, myself and most others have heard of the Electoral College.

No, if enough people supported someone (signed petitions, etc.) that person could wind up being nominated.

Thank you for all of your answers. I feel that I have a 4-way tie here, so am going to give it to the voters. Sorry if that will take longer.

Doesn't matter, because the American people don't elect the president. Seriously, am I the only person who's ever heard of the electoral college? *raises my hand* Anyone?

An individual must first declare his/her candidacy for President in order to run for their party's nomination. There are many factors at play in this process, not the least of which is money. Lots of it!!
This does not mean that a grassroots organization cannot shake things up. Even the major partys pay attention to what other candidates are saying and what impact it has on voters.
I think a good 3rd party movement would be healthy for our electoral process. Unfortunately, there are too many disparate views involved to reach a majority consensus to a 3rd party platform that could impact an election. The election of 1993 was very unique in that Ross Perot actually garnered almost 20% of the vote.

The Electoral College is made up of electors from each state whose vote will coincide with the popular vote of that state. It was created to achieve a measure of balance between the large states and the small states.

It isn't perfect but it is the best there is in the world.

The best way to research any candidate is to access their website and read their stated objectives. You can also research a candidate's voting record if he or she has held elective office. A politician can say anything. The voting record is their mark.

Have you seen the movie available at http://www.freedomtofascism.com/ ??? I highly recommend you watch the movie beyond viewing the clips online. Next contact Congressman Ron Paul's office and urge him to run for President. You don't have to make the decision to vote for him today. But without him in the race the only candidates you'll be presented with, who have a shot at winning, are the ones the owners of the Federal Reserve have already approved of. This applies to both Democrats and Republicans. Until the American people wake up and realize that most of our elected leaders are merely puppets for the owners of the Federal Reserve your rights will continue to be eroded. I just spent a Saturday night finishing a campaign plan that will allow the voters to actually have a choice in determining the next President, our elected leaders down the political ladder and the issues that will come out in the years ahead. I've decided that enough's enough and, once you begin to learn the whole truth about what's going on in America, I'm absolutely certain you'll agree that you've had enough politics as usual. You can reach Congressman Paul at http://www.house.gov/paul/contact.shtml and let him know where you stand on the issues also.
