Is the part where Jack Sparrow and Will Turner 'walk' underwater with a boat over their heads in order to catch an air-pocket to breathe while escaping actually physically possible?
Wouldn't they be puched up by the buoyant forces since they have nothing holding them down to the sea floor?

actually, no. based on the wood of the boat, and how they tilted it when getting it into the water, the buoyancy wouldn't be enough. if they lowered it flat onto the water, it would be enough, but if you look, the water line under the boat is above the edge, which means they tilted it slightly before entering the water to neutralize the upward tension. it is possible to do.

Yes.
There was a man who tried to sail the Atlantic in a rowing boat. It capsised, and he survived for 5 days lying on a lilo under the boat before he was spotted by a rescue helicopter.

ever heard of the show Mythbusters? http://community.discovery.com/eve/forums?s=6941912904&a=tpc&m=7891932708&f=9701967776
there's a forum that discusses this question^^^

and i have totally wondered the same thing! i doubt its really possible because they wouldnt be strong enough to hold down the boat...but you never know. i've never seen it actually attempted in real life, so i guess its still possible!
good question though!
