I’m sorry to sound negative, but I just want to warn you that trying to transfer a teaching credential to California State is a pain in the neck. I had a BS in science education and a MS in Comparative Education and 10 years teaching experience with excellent results, and CA would not accept my credentials. They forced me to take another two years worth of primarily undergrad classes in social studies, reading, and of all things - basic education. While this was happening, I could not work in before or after school centers, day care centers or tutoring centers because I did not have what they considered ECE credits. Although I had taken copious amounts of classes in all these areas, they would not accept any of them because they were not taken in CA. My personal feeling is that this is a money making situation for the state, but their response is that they are just insuring that all teachers have a baseline level of education. Whatever the reason, it can be an overwhelmingly time and money consuming process, not to mention very discouraging.

Additionally, with the NCLB laws all teachers must be “highly qualified” which of course means more state sponsored classes.

Please, don’t think that I am trying to discourage you. I love teaching and want more good teachers in the profession. I just remember wishing I knew what I was in for when I moved here so that I knew that I needed to find another way of supporting myself while transferring my credential over.

i'd wish not. not something personal, i'm certain you've grown up and characteristic replaced your existence round, yet being a mom i'd be livid if i stumbled on out my childs instructor turned right into a felon. I in basic terms stumbled in this.... that's not allowed. "California State practise Code prohibits the employment of a certificated worker, who has been convicted of a severe or violent criminal. to verify compliance with regulation, the California fee on instructor Credentialing and COE/college district/employers request employment heritage clearances (which includes criminal heritage information) about applicants for certificated employment from the California branch of Justice (DOJ)."
