I would check purevolume.com,
they usually have many indie bands.

also, if you have a myspace,
you can search for bands that are totally hidden,
but have amazing talent.

Sadly MP3.com was bought out, but it was the place to go. Now the artists have moved to www.music.download.com. Epitonic.com as older indie bands and I don't know how often they update the music scene there.

I think they both got 30 second demos which are quicker to download than whole songs. You basically have to be like the American Idol audition people and hear 3,000+ artists and do the old thumbs up or thumbs down.

Yahoo radio allows you to pick and choose which artists you want to hear. Ignore the 200 song limit, just press to continue (you will see it when the 200 song limit hits).

try either surfing around the web or watching a bunch of MTV and VH1. they have "You-oughta-know" artist and if you watch the videos in the morning you can usually find some good stuff!!! :)
