Your fourteen years old and having hypermenorrhea. Is it with menorrhagia, or too much volume? Causes of abnormal bleeding can arise from a variety of conditions such as anorexia, STDs, endometriosis, uterine fibroids, menopause transition, polycystic ovarian syndrome, cancer, yeast infections, thyroid disease, or birth control methods. If methods of hormone control have failed, and you have faithfully taken the pill for three months straight, it would be in your best interest to have a pelvic ultrasound and/or endometrial sampling to determine if any underlying cause maybe present. By these methods, endometriosis and ovarian cysts will be ruled out. Hormone sampling via blood could also be advantageous. Lastly, going on depo medrol, maybe a better idea than continued pill usage. Progestins aid in controlling hyperplasia and dysfunctional bleeding. Let your doctor know, and also get a CBC w/diff, thyroid panel, FSH, LH, prolactin, and testosterone level drawn at your next visit. Good luck.

Are you remembering to take them at the same time every day? If not that could be the problem. If you are then you need to get a hold of your Dr. and tell him what is going on and he might give you a stronger one. Usually those 2 reasons would explain the reason why it is not working. I also had the same problem. Am in my 30's now and still take the pill to control the flow. Your Dr. is probably gradually upping the dose for you. There are many kinds out there and you might just have to be patient. I had to have a D&C when I was younger for a period that would not stop. I was severely anemic due to the blood loss and was unable to leave the bathroom due to the ammt. of loss. If you aren't going to a gynegologist then I would ask your mom to get you in to see one. They are trained for that and can give much better treatments for this type of problem. Good Luck!

Hi honey! Well, I'd say that you are eating way too much sugar. Sugar tends to thin the blood. Whether it is in soda, candy, bread, cookies, etc, it's boils down to not good for you. What else are you eating? I had abnormally long periods when I first started my period. They didn't have the pill, THANK GOODNESS!, when I was young. My period eventually regulated itself after a year of this. I quit eating so much sugar and that helped ALOT! Good luck honey.

Try diferent prescriptions and alternative medicine. There may be other reasons why your period is so long, other then the regular over-think lining. Go back to your doctor or see someone specializing in homeopathic and/or alternative medicine. You may just not respond well to this type of treatment. In the mean time make sure your getting lots of iron.

This is normal... I had this problem as a teen and finally found a birth control that limited my period to about 10- 12 days. I grew out of it after a couple of years.

go get the shot instead of taken the pill. The shot will stop you from ahving a period or you may just spot but it is alot easier that way and u only have to take it like every 3 months

If it's been over a year without any improvement you should definitely go back to the doctor. Maybe there are other tests that they can run to find out what's going on. Try to think of any other symptoms that you've noticed that may be abnormal. Good luck to you!

it really ticks me off the # of dr's that just jump to put girls on the pill. First stop taking the pill before it kills you. second realize that your periods are not going to be normal for years. probably until your 17 maybe 25 just accept it. The pill is the worst thing they could do to you

You need to go back to the doctor and have him check you again to see if they can figure out what is causing this.
