How long ago did this affair end? If you two were intimate within the time frame of the baby being concieved, give it a shot! Call up the lawyers and get in line. Oh yeah, you might also want to find some proof that you two actually knew of one another. :)

I say stand in line- her gardener was here before you!! Not to mention the stable boy and Enrique, the car wash guy from El Salvador.... they were secret lovers as well... And, get this.. they also are claiming to be the babies daddy!!!

Paternity test time; don't hold your breath waiting for a check. The money belongs to the child, not to the father, whoever he may be; chances are that a court will put the money into trust for the child.

you could try mourning. 28 years is a long time for a relationship, its surprising that you could have that sort of relationship and then be so heartless about it.
