If so, how much does say, getting suspended from school, affect admissions decisions?

It depends on the college. Some schools require a report from a counselor and that question is on it.

But others don't ever ask, and unless the infraction was so serious that a principal or counselor contacted the college to report you, most likely it will never come up.

If the suspension involved criminal charges, it could be more complicated.

From what I know all of your school problems are turned over to the colleges if requested, because those aren't really considered to be private. But they also ask whether you have gone to jail and there are consequences if you lie so yeah I think they do.

I've never heard of anyone's records being turned over to a college in that respect. I would think you would have to consent to such a disclosure before it could be done.
