Not necessarily good marks in college 'cause that can't help you see a child with a learning disorder due to a broken or abusive homelife. Having an impeccable personal life, above public reproach or being meticulous/perfectionistic won't make you a good teacher as it is the adversity and problematic things in life that mature and enrich the human organism and invoke deeply learned lessons. Attending all the classes, seminars and devouring the latest literature on child development is a good idea but not a guarantee of a good teacher as there is nothing written in stone re: human nature. There will always be an exception to the rule. What makes a good teacher ? Love. If a teacher speaks w/the tongues of all men and angels and has no love...they are just a clanging school bell.

A good teacher consists of many things:

1. Must truly enjoy children.
2. Must have patience.
3. Must be able to get down to the
children's level to understand their perspective.
4. Must have respect her class and vice-versa.
5. There are so many more traits I could list but
what I strongly believe is the real test is when
a teacher is successful teaching a child with
learning disability. Most anyone, given the
guidance, can teach smart children, but a
good teacher will find the challenge of teaching
a less intelligent student a rich and rewarding
experience -- a true test of their abilities.

a good teacher should have a friendly personality to get along with the students first. a very important thing about a good teacher is PATIENCE. Details are very important as well when teaching a certain lesson. Math for example should be taught step by step with MUCH DETAIL. Not to be mean, but you really have to teach like the student is retarded and knows NOTHING of the lesson. Most teachers teach a subject as iff the student already knows it. Be patient with students and be very thorough.

A great teacher is someone who makes each child feel wanted each day, even if it's for a passing moment.
Feeling "believed in" is the most inspirational thing a child can experience. It leads to great things.

It's takes someone who loves teaching at heart and that really genuinely cares about the children and educating the children. Because we know they won't get paid much and they need to have patience and understanding. So, i'm guessing they should probably all be liberals. LOL ;)
