Singles in their 40s and older are not necessarily strange but they just somehow decide to let things go their natural course.
My college professor in Wisconsin was in his 40s when I was there. A kind person, social and inquisitive, well traveled, tall and has this baby- and clearly German face. He is definitely not a recluse because he has many community activities. Now he is retired and still single. He doesn't feel awkward about it and I would never call him weird. I have asked him a couple of times. All he says is that he has not crossed path with the one yet. And I don't think he ever will --- not that he cares that much at this stage of his life.

I think men who have not married by age 40 are pretty great. I think they know where they stand when it comes to relationships, and they understand themselves. They are probably more selective and less likely to marry "just because". That's fabulous.
I am a 38-year-old woman who has never married. I met my guy five years ago (he's now 43), who has never been married, and I was/am thrilled. I have a "thing" about marrying once and I don't want to be involved with a man who was married before. (This is for me only...I am not judging others in their choices of divorce, marriage, etc.)

I wouldn't worry what anyone thinks about it.Many guys 40 and above aren't married.I'm 45 and divorced now for six years.I'm not dating anyone by choice and I'm happy with this set up.
I tried dating for awhile but it didn't feel right at the time so I decided to work on my finances and hobbies.I spend time with friends and my kids. When I go out with friends that are married I sometimes get the questions why don't I have a girlfriend. My usual response is "I'm happy with my life and I enjoy my Independence.I am also financially secure without the burden or liability of a partner.

Why would you get married?
...ok just kidding.
If you've got pretty demanding career, which i assume you do, the average marriage age is way higher (particularly for a guy), so there's nothing really that unusual about it. People thinking otherwise are probably less educated and may be pregnant teenagers.
Mid-40 grooms tend to be highly successful (if a bit eccentric) people: tom cruise, bill o'reilly and probably loads of other multi-millionaire media-magnets i'm not thinking of right now.

I have known a few men who didn't get married until in their forties and have a very happy marriage. My brother-in -law was 49 and it was the first marriage for both of them. The only draw-back is, they both love children and never had any at their age. But they have money to spend on lots of nice trips etc!! So there is still hope especially when you are only 40, that's still young.

They probably haven't found the right women to marry yet. You shouldn't have to settle for anybody. I think 40 is still young and you'll eventually find the right woman when she comes along.

Married men will say smart.
Other single men will say look at puddy-whipped Fred over there.
Single women will think there is something wrong.
Married women will say let's hop in bed.
Your mother will cry and say take your time dear.
You dad will not care.
Your children will find you and you will have to pay back support.

My husband didn't get married until he was 40- he was too busy getting his education and setting up his career.

I dont think that is wrong of abnormal. It is the mens choice whether they want to marry or not and no one can make that choice for them.
