A charismatic leader tends to rally more people to his cause, but I would never vote for someone simply because they're charismatic! This is how people end up in cults! In a politician, the first thing I look at is their record and their plaform, and I weigh whether their values correspond to my own. A charismatic leader who stands for everything I find detestable won't represent me very well!

Charisma is a huge factor, but not the only one. In the US, what party a leader is in can make a huge difference--a lot of people will do a "straight vote," meaning that they'll vote ALL Republican or ALL Democrat without even looking at the individual candidates. Others have their #1 issues--some people would vote in a candidate who's "pro-life" even if that candidate's going to put us hugely into debt or lessen our constitutional rights. But once you weed out the extremists, charisma is big.

Not mine but unfortunately it can very easily win the election especially in a tight race. Though unification can only be brought about by a leader with a lot of it.
You've made me think with this one.
Charisma is more of a key factor in a primary when deciding on which candidate will run your party for the next 4 years. Chances are in the general election it will not win voters from the other side BUT will bring out that candidates political base to vote which IS a key factor in any political aspiration of any candidate in order to be elected.

Charisma is enticing, however, it is a poor substitute for integrity and competence. Research, on their voting record and any thing else you can find out about them, would give you a better indication of their values, character, and insight as to how they would handle the job. Clinton had charisma, which in his case equated to a scoundrel, who was paying attention to women when he should have been taking care of business.

Charisma sure helps, but we want to know how the person thinks, if he or she seems trustworthy, if this person can sway congress in his or her own way.

Jesus help us if it is a deciding factor when we Americans vote. Hitler was very "charismatic'! So, I'd say no to your question.
