I spend a lot of time training for triathlon events. When people ask me why I do it it, my answer is that I do it because I choose to do it. I would like to have this idea translated to latin, so the intent would be to express my free will in making a decision. My attempts at piecing it together from have lead me to "quia opto", but I'm sure that's not quite correct.

Quia opto is correct but it's only translating 'because I choose".
You can use also 'quod' or 'quoniam'.
If you want say 'because I choose to do it' it's then
'quia hoc facere opto"

There is also the verb malle, which means to prefer (specifically, to prefer something over something or all else.) If you want to use this verb, you can say several different things for because. There is quia, quod, quoniam, or etenim. Which ever you chose, malle would conjugate malo for 1st person singular (when you are talking). You could also use E, but then you would need a participle (literally translating, out of preferring,) which would then leave you with e mallenti, out of/because of preferring I, or you can use a different verb, such as cupiens, wishing.

This leaves all of your options to be:
Quia malo.
Quod malo.
Quoniam malo.
Etenim malo.
E malenti. (literally, out of wishing I, more fluent, out of my wishing)
E cupienti.

The others who have posted here are correct as well (except Alice69's (note: Don't EVER use translation guide for Latin, it doesn't have the ability to follow grammar rules) , these are just some more options. (Yes, quia opto is correct as well.)
