Does anyone know how one gets rid of static. Everytime I touch something that is metal I get shocked. This has been happening for a couple of months now and it is getting pretty annoying so if anyone knows any remedies to stopping his madness please let me know.

Static build up is higher in winter when things get dryer.

Natural fibers cause less static build up.

If you a worried about the shock build up just hold something metal in you hand then touch it to something metal to get rid of the static charge.

I find that I have static build up so when I get out of my van I touch the body of the van with my keys.

It's winter, the air is dry, and your carpets are just the sort that build up a frictional charge. Humidifying your house/apartment is the easiest solution. Or you could try making booties out of the plastic that they wrap PC components in. If you try that, let me know how it works. That just occurred to me but I think it has a shot at succeeding. Might be too much trouble, though. Make sure the inside of the bag ends up facing out. It's conductive.

Static Guard - you can buy it in the supermarket. It is an
aerosol you spray on stuff. It can be found near the starch
and laundry detergent.
I use it all the time. I spray it on my dresses and on
stuff that gets static - it works wonders. You also may
wish to run a humidifier as it can cut down on static as
well.

For laundry - use fabric softener as it will cut down
on static for your towels and sheets.

You can't stop static... lol
Okay, you can wear less cotton, and fluffy fur. That mostly attracts static, it clings to cotton, and animal fur. Not like mink mostly, but wool. Maybe you wear a fur coat for winter?

when u walk on carpet pick ur feet up off the floor. rubbing them causes friction in ur body and when u touch something metal the charge gets transferred.
