My first thought was to tell you to wear gloves or even socks over your hands, but you have to get down to the root of the problem. The Retin A is probably drying your skin out causing it to itch or you may even be allergic. Try putting some moisturizer on you face after to help hydrate it. If that does not work you can always take benedryl to relieve itching. Good luck.

Short of handcuffing yourself to the bed, there's not a whole lot of options. So let's try a few that might work.

First of all, you can trim your fingernails extremely short, that way you will not be able to scratch yourself and do any damage.

You could also wear light cotton gloves to bed, temporarily, until your skin condition gets better and you're not using Retin-A. You might not want to use latex surgical gloves, because your hands would sweat quite profusely. That's the reason why I chose cotton gloves.

Since you really can't control what you do in your sleep, these are the only suggestions that I can give you to help.

Wear cotton gloves while you sleep.

Seriously, wear cotton gloves while you sleep. That's one of the ways that parents can stop their children from scratching all night when they have chickenpox, measles, rashes of any type or insect bites. It will work for you as well.

Also, stop taking the stuff and talk with your doctor.

The Retin A dries out your skin and that is why it is so ichy. Make sure you moisturize and yes, socks or gloves or something over your hands before you go night-night. The softer the better, cause you know you will be touching your face with it.

Wear gloves or mittens when you go to bed, then you can't scrape
your skin with your nails. Plus, if you put a heavy moisteriser or oil
on your hands before you don the gloves, your hands will get a
good skin softening treatment.

You say you have tried gloves...have you mad sure that ALL of your bedding is laundered frequently in a soap/softener,etc. to which you are not allergic? Even the old Tried-and-True soaps/detergents change formulas and might now include a substance to which you show an allegic reaction.

Put soft tape or bandaids on your fingers so when you go to scratch it, it won't actually scratch.
