Yet again today, 2 overdraft notices came in the mail. One was for a check he wrote for $7 at My Favorite Muffin Cafe and another was our RENT CHECK!!!!!!!!!!!
I sit down every 2 weeks when he gets paid and do our bills so I know how much we have and I help him budget out his money. But he cannot keep himself from spending!
He tells me that he thinks that since he has such a good job he should be able to buy what he wants if he wants to. Well the news is while yes for just starting out we have good jobs but not enough when sometimes we are paycheck to paycheck....
How can I help him budget???
We both get so angry and frustrated and he hates to talk about any sort of money issue whatsoever....

just take the checkbook now require him to give you his paycheck and tell him he just has a certain amount of spending money . women control these things get it over with and spare him a lot of misery in the future but do it now before he realizes he is a man and has certain rights

That shows his immaturity and has not learned to be responsible for his family yet. It only gets worse ( such as getting a bunch of credit cards so he can spend to the limit). Just like substance abuse, it is very hard not to spend and even worse with the itches as the pile gets bigger. It is easy to get a $20k loan on a car but many times harder to save that amount to buy a house.

The first step is not be drawn to big ticket items (cars, vacation, and gambling) that take a long time to recover. The second step is to learn not to pull out the credit card or checkbook on small items because you don't feel the "pain" using them. People feel more refrained from lavish meals, snacks, and magazines if they have to pull out cash.

Sometimes, his father might get some sense into him.

Go to http://www.moneymatters.org and email them with this and they may be able to give you some help and advice on how to budget your money wisely. you may have to take over the bills and finances and pay the bills and keep things on track since he is not good at it.

This sounds just like something my ex wife would say.She had this belief that it was her money and she deserved to have nice things regardless of the bills.I guess that's why she is in so much debt now.
