The stuff that holds everything together in a relationship. It is all figurative. There is no real "fabric" that holds things together. Friendship itself is not physical, so characteristics like just being nice are in the fabric of friendship.

It's like the bonding of the different threads. It's like a friendship quilt. The way different friends make different patterns, and some just seem to work better with others.
