Advantages and disadvantages of staning when examining cells and tissues???

Also, + why do biologists use different stains???

different stains are used for different things. ie, gram staining is best to differentiate between gram pos and gram neg bacteria, spore staining best shows up sporing cells, lactophenol blue is the stain of choice for moulds.

advantages: easier to see, differential staining - gram staining, ability to identify spores
