descriptive just means youre describing......just write....you must be early on in your college career since youre doing this assignment and youre asking for help......usually teachers are helpful at this time in giving suggestions and offering help to improve your righting. break the essay up into paragraphs, each paragraph should cover a different topic----since youre writing about your favorite person (dad) you should tell why he is your favorite person....DESCRIBE why he is your favorite person. one paragraph may cover how he makes good choices and you look up to him, another may describe how he is smart, another may describe how he cares about you and your family, one may describe how he gives good advice, another how he is fun to hang out with....etc etc. just pick maybe 3 or 4 separate reasons of why he is your favorite person (depending on how long it is....may need more, may need less), and have each of these reasons make up a paragraph. always provide examples in these types of essays....so, if youre saying that he gives good advice, you can tell about a time that you had a problem and you came to him and he helped you to solve the problem (of course, this example would go into the proper paragraph). put a thesis statement at the end of the introduction that says something along the lines of "my dad is my favorite person because he is _____, _____, and _____. (these reasons that youre giving on why your dad is your fav person----shown by the blanks above----should all be topics of your paragraphs---one paragraph topic per reason. make sense? questions?

If this is for a college admission, make sure you answer the prompt! If it's descriptive, then describe. If it's trying to get what inspires you, then be sure to answer that. I read hundreds of college essays each year, and many, many are well written, but completely miss the prompt!
If you are describing your father, then write about the characteristics you admire. Give examples, of how he has inspired you and how that has influenced your college plans.
While the essay seems to be asking about your father, the whole point of a college essay is to learn more about you. So use this essay, and your father, to show the college more about you. Remember, the college will not be admitting your father, they want to admit you, so give them details that reflect information and insight into your character, work ethic, motivation, etc. as it relates to your father's influence.
Good luck!

Use adjectives and expand on them.
My Father is funny - he thinks of witty things to say when we go to the store or see a movie. He is also productive - he built our room addition in his spare time and did it in three months.
He is bright - he speaks three languages and scored 145 on an IQ test.
How many pages do you need? Write a good opening paragraph with some foreshadowing of your points about him - then expand on the adjectives and summarize what you wrote in the concluding paragraph.
First - brainstorm (write your thoughts down, do an outline in the foram above, then write. Wait a day then reread it for readacbility and revisions.
Good Luck.

- List words that you feel your father represents or expresses in everyday life. (Motivating, Helpful, ect.)
- Think of specific examples of each of those characteristics. (Motivational - After recieving an awful grade on my exam, my father encouraged me to .....)
- You can either write your essay in a five paragraph form, in which you focus on three assets, or characteristics you believe your father possess or you can create an all encompassing essay in which you describe more than three, but possibly with less detail.
- Always be open when writing, remember it is a form of art.
